Why Camp Dudley and Camp Kiniya?

Can you believe it? My boy is in college! You guys first got him when he was 10 and now he’s 18! I remember dropping him off at Camp Dudley 8 years ago, absolutely loving the campgrounds and how friendly and welcoming you all were!!!

I was so nervous that I would not be able to talk to him. I remember sitting at my desk on that first Friday, waiting for the pictures to appear on your website. I just wanted to know that my baby was ok. And when I finally saw that first picture after scrolling and scrolling and scrolling, my heart smiled. Every part of me smiled!

So THANK YOU and all the staff of Camp Dudley for being a wonderful influence in my son’s life!

In the winter of 2006, Bebe and I were contemplating summer camps for our oldest child, our daughter Adelaide.  While Bebe had attended a great camp in Colorado, we knew that was too far away.  As Dudley magic always seems to happen, we soon learned that Camp Kiniya would open that summer under Dudley’s great banner.  Case closed and Kiniya entered the Bullock family.  With our two boys also fully engaged in Dudley, we are proud to report over 20 summers of CDK between Adelaide, Liam, and Silas.  Of particular importance to us are the relationships that our three kids continue to share through high school and college with their fellow campers.  The sense of community at these two camps and the ways that CDK leadership has helped to shape the values and beliefs of our three kids is a gift we will always cherish.  Thank you Sumner Dudley and Helen Van Buren!

We sent our two boys to Dudley because our job as parents is to prepare them for lives as thoughtful, productive, and caring members of their communities. The opportunity to be part of a safe and beautiful outdoor space with supportive peers and leaders who provide appropriate role models was an extraordinary first moment of true independence for them.  The emotional, physical and spiritual growth that they underwent each of those four summers as a camper has helped us immensely to prepare them for their lives as young adults in today’s society. We are eternally grateful.

Thank you so much for a fantastic camp summer for my girls! We finally got Madeleine there! She had the best summer, made tons of friends, and the first thing she told me that she can’t wait for next year and her Kiwi achievement and that she will be doing NOLS with her camp friends the year after. Of course, Olivia also had another great year, but she always did, from day one, and it sounds like she continued to throw herself into everything. She was also full of stories and great ambitions!
