Athletics is one of the 4 pillars of the Kiniya Program, along with Arts, Outdoors and Spirituality. At Kiniya we use athletics to help instill teamwork and sportsmanship in our community. At Kiniya, there are two components to our Athletic program: team competition and Individual Majors.
Campers are placed on teams based on age as follows: 9-10 year-olds, 11-12 year-olds, and 13-15 year-olds. Each day, except for Saturday and Sunday, teams will be scheduled to compete in one of the following sports: basketball, lacrosse, soccer, softball, ultimate frisbee and volleyball.
Individual Majors are another key component to the athletics program at Kiniya. Each camper has the opportunity to select one Individual Major to focus on throughout their time at Camp. They will meet twice a week focusing on skill development and an increased level of competency.
- Rock Climbing – our Challenge course is equipped with a 3-sided climbing wall with various levels of difficulty. Rock climbing majors will also participate in an off-campus climbing trip.
- Fitness – Fitness is available to Seniors only and focuses on training for upcoming sports season. Activities often including core strengthening, yoga, running, sprints, and more!
- Paddling – canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding
- Aquatics – Aquatics is available to Seniors only and includes swimming, waterskiing, basic lifeguarding techniques
Despite what Individual Major you participate in, each camper will still be exposed to each of the activities listed above.
