#7104 Stephen Murray, Delray Beach, FL, wrote with a reflection of his four wonderful years at Camp. Says Stephen, “I was a camper from 1946-1949. #6851 Bud Garner (waterfront), #7165 Clare “Bumps” Johnson (boats), and #6733 Paul Filer (music) were all from my town of Easton, PA. And now #7031 Cy Fleck has two granddaughters from Texas who go to Kiniya.”

#7591 “Jack” John C. Kotz, Kiawah Island, SC, sent a “Happy winter solstice” sunset photo and message from the highest point near the city of Zurich, Switzerland. Son #12190 Dave Kotz is there on sabbatical at the university.

#8409 Skip Pohl, Pittsboro, NC, hopes to return to Dudley during the 2020 summer season. He’s been busy with travels to India, Costa Rica, the Panama Canal, and the Caribbean.

#8505 Bob Craft, Washington, DC, celebrated his 80th birthday in October 2019. Bob took a knee when son #14580 Tiger Craft made a surprise appearance!

#8608 Bob Stroud, Concord, MA, and his wife, Tuey, checked in with the news that they are doing well after an African safari and several months spent in Nantucket.

#9064 John Bliss, Newburgh, NY, shared he is enjoying retirement, where he has spent time serving on the Board of the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra

#9191 Carlton Cleveland, Naples, FL, wrote of his retirement from his 50-year career in the investment business with Merrill Lynch. He is currently dedicating time to the Immokalee Fair Housing Alliance, where he serves on the board.

#9555 Randy Quayle, Lake Placid, NY, sent us this great family photo with Georgia Brambles, Sibyl Quayle, #20155 Joanna Quayle Brambles, Teddy Brambles, #20016 Oliver Brambles from a fall family visit to the Algarve region of Portugal.

#9556 Bernie von Kutzleben, Naples, FL, wrote about the wonderful traveling he and his wife, Carolyn, have recently enjoyed. They went north to visit family, took cruises to Mexico and the Caribbean, attended their oldest son’s wedding in New Orleans, and ventured to Australia. He sends best wishes and says he always looks forward to the Dudley Low Camp Number get-together in Venice, FL.

#9942 Tom Dempsey, Naples, FL, and Mary Jo had the chance to enjoy a cruise and golf trip to New Zealand in March.

#10552 John Bertrand, Nedrow, NY, wrote to share he still has many great memories of summer 1967! John shared he is retired as an electrician, has two daughters, two grandsons and 48 years of marriage!

#11089 John Frisch, Phoenix, MD, began his retirement from Miles & Stockbridge. John devotedly served as chairman and chief executive officer of Miles & Stockbridge for 15 of his 36 years with the firm. John is providing leadership coaching and leadership development services through Shawan Leadership, a company he founded.

#11156 John Lowry III, Chicago, IL, was sworn in as assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service on January 6, 2020.

#12190 David Kotz, Lyme, NH, shared news from his sabbatical leave from Dartmouth.  During his sabbatical, he is at ETH (the great Swiss technical university). The attached photo was taken of Dave and family in Zurich at Christmas. Andy is going to the American school there, and John and Mara flew in for the holidays. Why the Dartmouth shirts? Dave did his undergrad work there and is of course now on the faculty. His wife, Pam, did her PhD there in epidemiology and was on the hospital staff as a pediatrician. John graduated from Dartmouth last spring (and is now at Apple in SF), Mara is a sophomore (after doing a GAP year in Europe and Nepal), and Andy will start college in the fall. The family was together almost three weeks and traveled all over Switzerland.

#12850 David Mahler and wife Elizabeth, Sarasota, FL, wrote in to share that David is in his 15th year as Head of School at The Out-of-Door Academy, an independent day school. He recently stepped down from the Florida Council of Independent Schools Board of Trustees after 12 years, including four as President. Son Gus is a sophomore at Hamilton College and plays football for the Continentals. Daughter Adelaide is a freshman at Middlebury and is on their volleyball team. David shared news of his dad #6851 Vic Mahler passing away last year (see In Memoriam).

#13057 Robert Withington III, Oneonta, NY, shares that he continues to organize the SUNY Oneonta Biology Dept.as the lab coordinator. #23457 Preston played saxophone in the Area All-State band and his soccer team made it to the State Quarter Finals. #25057 Wyndam played the tuba in the All-County band and continues to act with the Starstruck Players.

#13136 Adam Hainer, Westport, NY, of Juniper Hill Farm is one of the recipients of an Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA) Local Farm Grant. Adam says the grant will allow him to purchase equipment for processing butternut squash grown on his organic vegetable farm, including a peeling machine. The machine will allow the farm to sell more squash to schools and other institutions that prefer minimally processed vegetables.

#13789 Andrew Smith, Pittsburgh, PA, wrote from Middlebury Campus Arts Center about performing his one-man show, The Gun Show, about guns in America in January. Having toured in five states he was invited by Middlebury to perform there.

#13871 James Feuer, Alhambra, CA, played Roy Cohn in Angels in America for his MFA thesis at Cal State, LA, in December 2019. Says James, “I also taught acting and improv for business professionals. Graduating in May, looking for acting work in LA.”

#14016 Sean McCalla, East Meadow, NY, is currently working as a Senior Project Manager for VHA Construction which specializes in aviation and transportation infrastructure projects. Sean is managing work at JFK, Newark and Laguardia airports as well as the New York Port Authority. While busy with family and work Sean is also looking to continue giving back with volunteer work through My Brother’s Keeper Alliance.

#18500 Bill Harper, Bainbridge Island, WA, shared about his recent 155-mile mountain bike trip with wife Carolyn in Kenya. They traveled on remote roads on conservation lands set aside for wildlife renewal, especially the Northern White Rhino, which is near extinction. Bill wrote: “After riding alongside rhinos, zebras, galloping giraffes and mating lions, we were both pretty stunned with the beauty of it all.” They then spent four days climbing up to Pt. Lenana on Mt. Kenya.

#18732 Sumner Miller and  #19556 Lt. Preston Miller had a great adventure in Petra, Jordan, with their family: mom Jane, uncle #11156 John Lowery and aunt Meleda.

#19178 Sam “Turtle” McKeown, Milwaukee, WI, sent in a picture of himself with sister Molly at a Bon Iver’s show in October at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

#19230 Anna Carter Florence, Atlanta, GA, shared that husband #25283 David has taken a new associate pastor position at a church in Black Mountain, NC. Says Anna, “That is where all Southern Presbyterian paths eventually intersect. It’s the start of an exciting and very postmodern chapter for us! I go up a few weekends a month, he comes down a few days a month. We were all there for Christmas when the boys came for a week. The Blue Ridge Parkway is close by and so are the mountains; not the Adirondacks, but still beautiful.”

#19629 D’Anne Hurd, Bourne, MA, reports that #17629 Eric is getting married on May 30, 2020 in Nantucket and #18629 Doug moved to San Diego. Says D’Anne, “Other than that, all is well.”

#20227 Margaret Griffin, New York, NY, shared news of her adventure hiking La Campana Omule in Hijuelas, Valparaíso Región, Chile with study abroad friends in October, 2019.

#20371 Clara Dannemann, Lancaster, PA, is a second-year student at the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School.

#20981 Fiona Maruca, #25195 Noah Dines and #23587 Paul Brown, all Burlington, VT, residents enjoyed the warm Camp company and the cold winter ice on a climbing excursion in early March, 2020. YOHA!

#21174 Andrew Hollander, Hadley, MA, is a Junior at Lafayette College and editor of the sports section of the college newspaper, and #22474 Robert Hollander is a freshman at Loyola Maryland and volunteering with Soccer without Borders.

#21477 Haley Carstensen, San Francisco, CA, was inducted into the Dartmouth Hall of Fame as a “Wearer of Green” in October 2019. She was recognized for being an All-American in water polo her senior year in 2012.

#22055 Charlie Widing, Brookline, MA, played in the Liberty League Championship on November 9, 2019 to claim the title for Hobart. Unfortunately, they were defeated in NCAA playoffs in Lancaster, PA.

#22287 Paige Johnson, Lawrenceville, NJ, shared the exciting news that she graduates from Rutgers Newark Business School in May, 2020 and her adventures will continue. Says Paige, “I’ve accepted a full-time offer of employment with BASF, the world’s largest chemical company, in their Commercial & Sales Professional Development Program! Over the next 24 months, I’ll be living in three US cities for eight months to learn about BASF, ‘the biggest company you’ve never heard of’.” The photo shows Paige in the Sahara Desert of Morocco, Africa during her Spring 2019 study abroad adventure!

#22318 Maia Vota, Burlington, VT, made national news with the Burlington High School girls soccer team, The Seahorses, for their display of #equalpay jerseys at the end of a game in October, 2019. The young women were inspired by the US Women’s National soccer team and “their efforts to achieve equal pay for equal play.”

#22760 Alex Foster, London, England, and #24527 Geri Bognar, Budapest, Hungary, met up in Hungary for a beer and catch up. Here’s to good Kiniya friends!

#23725 Clara Freeth and #24981 Adela Ardrey both attended the USA Field Hockey National Indoor Tournament in February, 2020 in Lancaster, PA. Adela plays with a field hockey club from Westport, CT, and Clara plays with Pinnacle in Ann Arbor, MI. It’s fun they could connect in the winter!

#23845 Betsy Lyles Swetenburg, Atlanta, GA shared news of her current work and adventures. Says Betsy, “I’m still on staff at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. I’m the Associate Pastor for Adult Ministries, so I oversee Mission, Education, Spiritual Formation, Communications, Engagement, Stewardship, and Congregational Life. I get to do a little bit of a lot of things.” Yoha, Betsy!

#24534 Iesha Fitzgerrald, Eleuthera, Bahamas, is in her first year at Brewster Academy, spent Thanskgiving with #24729 Mary Fitzgerrald, Larchmont, NY, and went to an NBA game!

#24805 Piper Higgins, Williamstown, MA, is a junior at Williams College and is very involved in the college and community. She is a coxswain for the Men’s Crew team, lifeguards in the early mornings at the pool, writes and records music, sings in the choir, and helps in the Classics Department as a Latin TA. She is also a member of the choir at St. John’s Episcopal Church in town. In November she and Bill Reyburn joined voices for an American Folk Concert at the church in support of the Berkshire Immigrant Center in Pittsfield, MA. Their music was lively, heartwarming, and a true joy for all in attendance.
