The Other Fellow First E-News
OCTOBER – 2020
Welcome to The Other Fellow First Newsletter! We’ll be keeping you informed monthly on the latest Camp Dudley and Kiniya news, with a special focus on how members of our Camp community are putting The Other Fellow First!
“GATE-TO-GATE” RACE RECAP
The first-ever virtual gate-to-gate fundraising race between Kiniya and Dudley is now in the archives. From October 1 – 17, 2020, 113 racers combined to virtually travel the equivalent of 4,088 miles! Athletes could use exercise of all types that were then converted to miles along a designated route. 148 donors also combined to raise more than $13,600 for the 2020 Annual Fund called Weathering the Storm. This effort is helping to keep us financially strong in this year without tuition. Each athlete and donor has been part of a larger effort that shows the combined power of putting “the other fellow first!”
There were lots of winners at this event! The winning team (first across the finish line) was the Dudley/Kiniya Germany 2019 team. This group was made up of the young men and women that represented our Camps in Germany in 2019. Individually, #11383 Christopher Russ traveled the most distance covering 163.62 miles. He was followed closely by #22844 Maddie Leopold with 134.72 miles. The top individual fundraisers of the event were #11904 John Ulin, #22898 Whitney Phelps and #23470 Darrel “Baby D” Smith. A huge THANK YOU goes to everyone who participated be it as an athlete, donor, cheerleader, or all of the above! It is never too late to make your gift and be part of the action, give online now, or Venmo your gift. Thank you!

DUDLEY & KINIYA MICRO-INTERNSHIPS
This fall, Dudley & Kiniya launched a new micro-internship program with two goals in mind: create opportunities for our Leaders to build valuable career experience; make progress on strategically important projects. Basically, it’s a chance for Leaders to get a solid resume builder while also helping Camp! This led us to some very cool micro-internship opportunities in Leadership Development, Program Development, Historical Research of Alumni of Color, Donor Communications, Historical Camp Data, Campus Mapping, and the Camp Spirituality Program. Stay tuned for project updates.
PARENT CORNER – “BELONGING”
Camp is not whole without its people. As we move through this next season, we are thinking of you all. How we missed you this summer as we look ahead to the return of laughter and cheers, happy feet running across campus, and the joy that you all bring each year. Each and every one of your children belong here. Living through this time of pandemic, social and economic upheaval, the demand for patience and tolerance for uncertainty continues.
THE OTHER FELLOW FIRST IN ACTION
Throughout the pandemic, we have been pleased to bring you real-life stories of campers, alumni, and camp families that have put the motto into practice at home. Recently we learned about #25461 Jack Dalton, Mercer Island, Washington. As his church confirmation project, Dalton organized and implemented a program that raised $5,300 for the Federal Way School District. The gift is being used to help the district purchase more than 20 computers that the school needs to support remote learning during the pandemic. Jack was able to present the check to Dr. Tammy Campbell, Superintendent of the school district. You can find further details about the project and Jack’s project here. Congratulations, Jack!
HORTON’S KIDS IN THE NEWS
We value our community partners and the year-round work they do with Dudley and Kiniya campers. We were thrilled to see Horton’s Kids featured on ABC News. READ MORE …
THANK YOU, EDUCATORS!
As our campers have gone back to school this fall, we wanted to take a moment to recognize educators all across the country, but particularly those who are part of the Dudley & Kiniya Community. Throughout last spring and now as we start off this unprecedented school year, educators have shown incredible flexibility and fortitude in helping us all navigate this incredibly challenging time. In fact, last spring, our Alumni Association created a resource on Facebook for Dudley & Kiniya educators to gather virtually and share best practices and keep the Dudley & Kiniya spirit alive in their (virtual) classrooms. Thank you for being another great example of our motto…The Other Fellow First!
