Passionate ASL Learner Turns to Teaching
#22896 Erin Long has decided to turn to teaching during her stay-at-home experience. A passionate ASL learner, Erin had been leading a monthly ASL class at her local library. When everything started to shift online, Erin followed suit!
Her website states, “Erin Long has been studying ASL for 4 years now. After watching her own mother struggle to connect in an audio-centric world, she knows first-hand the value of visual communication. She developed a passion for ASL, and now she wants to take what she knows and educate the rest of the hearing world about ASL and communicating across language and ability barriers.”
I recently took my first class with Erin and I was so impressed with her confidence as a teacher! She delivered a spectacular curriculum to about a dozen people and I am now feeling good about using the alphabet, numbers, and a few phrases. And, she was right, my hands were tired at the end of the class!
You can learn more about future classes, access ASL resources, and support her program, on her website: mapsoasl.org or her Facebook page. Keep it up, Erin!
