New Camp Director Announced

• 8 years ago • Announcements

Dear Member of the Camp Dudley Family,

On behalf of the Camp Dudley Board of Managers, I am pleased to announce that the Board has unanimously and enthusiastically accepted the recommendation of the Search Committee that Matthew S. (“Matt”) Storey, camper #13804, be appointed the next Director at Camp Dudley in Westport, New York.

The Search Committee presented its unanimous recommendation to the Board having conducted a nationwide search involving a large and exceptional field of over 40 interested parties for the Boys Camp Director position, both from within and outside the Camp Dudley family. These applicants represented an array of compelling backgrounds and abilities, all with a shared enthusiasm for Camp Dudley’s purpose, mission and future.

From the search process emerges an accomplished and dedicated Dudleyite in Matt Storey, whose Dudley experience began as a Cub in 1985, and who rose through the camper ranks to become a Leader, D-head, Staff member, Camp Dudley Association Vice President and President, member of the Board of Managers, and most recently, Camp Dudley’s Business Manager. Matt also led the German Exchange Program in 1995, has been a key participant during pre-season campus set-up and orientation, served as a member of the Board’s Plant and Property Committee, and has had a direct hand in the design and publishing of the CDA News, the Camp Dudley website and the Dudley/Kiniya brochures. Few individuals have had as much “hands on” experience in so many dimensions of Camp Dudley’s operations as Matt Storey.

In addition to his extensive Dudley history, Matt brings rich experience in both marketing and running a business, as President and Owner of Berkshire Direct, Inc. in Williamstown, Massachusetts. His abiding commitment to and connection with children is reflected not only in his quarter century of Dudley experiences but also through years of youth athletic coaching and leadership involvement in a variety of Williamstown youth organizations. Matt and wife Jessica (#16999) – a Teacher at the Mt. Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown – are the proud parents of Ellie (#21204), Carter and Rachel, ages 9, 8 and 6. All are thrilled to be taking up residence in Westport as part of a talented Dudley leadership team.

As a current member of the year-round leadership team, Matt will assume the Boys Camp Director’s role June 1st with a “full head of steam,” ensuring important leadership continuity in Westport. Matt will work closely with Andy Bisselle, Dudley’s Executive Director, and with Marnie McDonagh, our Director at Camp Dudley at Kiniya. As Executive Director, Andy will principally focus on coordinating between the two Directors and campuses, overseeing business management and the ongoing development and scholarship activities, and serving as the primary contact with regulatory and other constituencies external to the daily Boys and Girls Camp operations. This will enable Matt to focus exclusively on the campers and leadership team in Westport to deliver another “best ever” summer for the Boys in the coming 126th Season.

Personifying “The Other Fellow First”, Matt Storey will nurture and inspire campers, Leaders and Staff alike, with his strong emphasis on teamwork, communication and an unflagging commitment to Dudley’s mission. We are blessed to have such an impressive and capable man to lead the Boys Camp into Dudley’s next and greatest decade.

Finally, I would like to thank the eight participants in the search process, including the six Search Committee members – Rollie Stichweh (Chairman), Christy Coyne, Paul Grinwis, Rich Maxwell and Board Members Kevin McCormick and Chris Perry – joined by Charlie Johnson IV and Matt Quigley, who along with Kevin are members of the Board’s Executive Committee. This tremendous result for Camp Dudley would not have been possible without their exceptional work over the last three months.

With warmest regards,
Dwight M. Poler, #11889
Chairman
Camp Dudley Board of Managers
