BCS Group on Mt. Washington
The Boys’ Camping Society was born two years ago as an extension of Camp Dudley’s Outdoors Program. It was designed as a wilderness based continuation of our Leadership Development Progression for incoming Aides who wish to spend a camp session exploring the natural wonders of the Northeast. During the 2008 and 2009 summers, groups of Camp Dudley boys fostered their leadership skills on extended outdoor trips to Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and our very own Adirondack State Park. While on the road, these select leaders in training combined many of Camp Dudley’s traditions such as vespers and Sunday Talks with exciting activities like rock climbing, surfing, mountain biking, sea kayaking and backpacking. They were joined by experienced Camp Dudley leaders and staff on the trail, pioneering a new branch of Dudley’s steadfast tradition of creating strong leaders and responsible citizens.
In the upcoming summer of 2010, we are excited to continue the program with renewed passion and a vision of including a wider variety of trips that fall under the scope of our Leadership Training Program. This summer, we plan on sending two per session. One group of young men will continue to explore the wilds of New England while the other will embark on journey to a slightly more remote location. We are excited to bring you more information on both trips as our planning continues and hope to hear from those incoming Aides and Junior Leaders who are interested.
