Summer of 2012- Dudley NOLS Leadership Trip
We are heading West to explore the wild and remote Wind River Mountain Range of Wyoming
As the BCS continues to evolve after five years of wilderness trips, we’ve found ourselves ready to take the adventure to the next level. In the past, our trips have ventured into the Adirondacks, White Mountains, The Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, Maine Coast and even to northeastern Ontario. For the first session of 2012, 10 Dudley and Kiniya campers, 5 boys and 5 girls, and 2 Dudley staff members will fly to Lander, WY to embark on this adventure. We have partnered with NOLS, the oldest and most prestigious outdoor leadership school in the country, for 2 weeks of backpacking and camping and one week of rock climbing. The group will begin and end their adventure in Westport and Colchester, with 20 days in between of amazing wilderness experience.

Last summer, we had a very successful BCS ‘Maine and Canada Exploration’ trip. The group of 8 boys spent 10 days canoeing in northern Ontario, a week road biking on the coast of Maine, and several days doing community service projects in the local Westport area.
All BCS trips have a few things in common. The focus is on leadership development in small groups in a wilderness setting. In addition, trips maintain a firm grasp on Camp Dudley roots and traditions. “The Other Fellow First”, our Camp Motto, remains part of an ongoing conversations. While on the trial, we do Vespers and Sunday Talks, and relate much of what we learn back to leadership at Camp. On the BCS, we maintain Camp continuity by balancing our 4 Dudley pillars in our daily activitites, Arts, Athletics, Spiritual and the Outdoors.
The BCS also offers a winter trip, the BCS Winter Leadership Trip. This week-long trip is offered to our 16 and 17 year-old boys who hope someday to be a leader at Dudley. The trip is based out of the Westport campus and concentrates on leadership, outdoor skills, and community service. This year’s trip was amazing and we are very excited to offer this adventure again. Trip dates are Dec 26th- Jan 31st.
“Everybody on the trip got the chance to go knee deep in snow to make it easier for those behind. We all worked together knowing we were all going through the same hardships. The day came to an end with a beautiful sunset, a great dinner, and a moving vesper in front of the fire in our yurt. We all slept well that night.” Peter Rogers
