Becoming A Leader At Kiniya
Leader/Staff Hiring Time Schedule
- Beginning October 1, we will accept letters of request for employment. Each applicant will then receive a formal application from Camp Dudley at Kiniya.
- By March 1, all applications should be on file at Kinya
- March 22, notification of acceptance begins
- March 30, all applicants will be advised of the status of their application.
The Cabin Leader is the most important job at Camp Dudley at Kiniya. She is responsible for the safety, well being and contentment of his AL, JL, Aide and her campers.
Qualifications
To be eligible for the Leader position, a young woman must be at least 18 years old, have attended Camp Dudley and progressed up the Leadership Ladder and be currently certified in CPR and First Aid and have Red Cross Lifeguard training. In the event that the young woman is new to Kiniya, she must have a personal interview with the Camp Director, have attended college for at least one year and meet all of the above criteria pertaining to special certifications.
General Responsibilities
A Leader’s principal responsibility is to her cabin unit. She is the primary guardian for her campers and must see to it that coverage is provided for them at all times. In addition, the Leader is also the caretaker and role model for her AL, JL and Aide. A Leader will be assigned a team or an area of program and must be at her station at all scheduled times. A Leader must understand and uphold all of the rules and values of Camp Dudley at Kiniya.
Specific Duties
Leaders eat all of their meals with their campers and will ensure that proper table manners and eating habits are encouraged. She must be present at activities, on time and is, again, responsible for the safety and well-being of her campers at her program area and at all group events. A Leader will lead one hike or canoe trip each half and will be available to work with the Hike Hut to facilitate these trips. A Leader will be placed on Lifeguard Duty periodically throughout the summer and will report to Senior Beach at these designated times. All Leaders, as a group, will remain in their cabins on Sunday evenings and Thursday nights after Vespers. Each Leader is responsible for the writing and delivery to the office staff of a Camper Report for each and every girl in her care, this includes reports on AL’s, JL’s and Aides. All Leaders are in charge of their own cabin’s Vesper program and must conduct Vespers every day except Sunday.
Supervision
A Leader is responsible to her Division Head, Senior Staff Members, the Leadership Development Team and, ultimately, the Camp Director.
Privileges
- Five nights out each week. From the conclusion of Vespers until 1 AM, Leaders are allowed to be out of their cabins and are allowed to leave campus. On Thursdays and Sundays, all Leaders will go to sleep with their campers.
- One Day Off Each Full Week – Total 7: A Leader will have one day off each week. These days off are chosen by the Leaders’ meeting and must be approved by the Division Head and Program Director.
Final Note
A Camp Dudley at Kiniya Leader has her own campers’ needs to tend to, but must also be willing to look out for the well being of everyone with whom she spends her summer. A Leader will strive to lead by example and make every effort to live, “The Other Fellow First.”
