Becoming A Kiniya Aide

Becoming an Aide at Camp Dudley at Kiniya is the first step a camper takes toward eventually running her own cabin. While still able to participate in camper activities, an Aide is called upon to assist her Cabin Leadership Team in assuring that the campers in her cabin have a safe and fulfilling summer. Not everyone gets to be an Aide. The number of positions available does not allow us to take all that apply. We will consider all applications and we will accept some Aides for half season.

Each girl must read and understand the description of the Aide duties and be willing to commit to all that is being asked of her. In addition, we ask that you adhere to the following time schedule and recommended means of communication.

  • Beginning September 1st, girls may submit a personal, old-fashioned letter to Marnie expressing their desire to become an Aide. Once the hand-written letter has been submitted, you will receive an official application from camp.
  • January 15th All Aide applications should be on file at Kiniya.
  • February 15th, All applicants will be advised of the status of their application.

Please read the accompanying outline of duties and make sure that you and your parents understand what your responsibilities will be should you decide to pursue this challenging and most fulfilling task.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the Aide position, a girl must be 15 years of age by the end of the camp season, and a rising high school sophomore.

General Responsibilities

The Aide, as a member of the Cabin Leadership Team, assists her Leader in all aspects of cabin life. She will set an appropriate example in the cabin and at meals, be present and participate in all camp and cabin activities, participate in a wilderness trip (the Aides Experience), and participate on an assigned athletic team. The Aide must understand and uphold all of the rules of Camp Dudley at Kiniya.

Specific Duties

The Aide is responsible for developing and reviewing 2-3 personal goals with her Leader, attending and participating in weekly meetings with members of the Leadership Development Team, making herself available to her campers during her free time and assisting waitresses at all meals.

Supervision

The Aide is directly responsible to her Cabin Leader. As a member of Kiniya’s leadership hierarchy, she will also interact with and be accountable to her Division-Head, Senior Staff members, the Leadership Development Team, and ultimately, to the Camp Director.

Privileges
  • An Aide will receive 1 night out each week. From the conclusion of vespers until 11:30PM the Aides are allowed to be out of their cabins and have the use of the Camp facilities for one evening each week. These nights out will be determined at the beginning of each week. They may use the dining hall, dance studio, theater and other supervised areas. They may not be in any unsupervised area at these times.
Final Note

The Aide position is both challenging and rewarding. It requires a young woman who is willing to place the needs of others ahead of her own and to truly live “The Other Fellow First.”

Any and all of the above information may be modified at the Director’s discretion.
